In India, because of the huge shift in lifestyle as well as eating habits people develop health issues at tremendous levels. By detecting health problems at an early stage, you can get rid of the burden of diseases. There are various types of imaging procedures to detect the problems in the body such as x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT, and PET CT Scan. PET CT (Positron Emission Tomography-Computerized Tomography) scan is a nuclear medicine test that is a combination of a CT scan and a PET scan. It allows doctors to detect different diseases in the human body at the cellular level. Unlike other imaging procedures, it uses a special radioactive material along with glucose to analyse the working of organs and tissues. The radioactive tracer is injected into the veins of the patient and the tissues and organs that absorb this solution get highlighted under the PET CT scanner. It helps doctors in analysing how well the organs and tissues are working.

What is a whole-body PET CT Scan?

PET CT scan is a combination of PET scan and CT scan into a single PET CT scanner to diagnose various diseases these days. Other imaging procedures such as CT scan, MRI scan, X-Ray, etc. provide information about the organs and tissues inside the body at the structural level, whereas a whole-body PET CT scan provides information about organs at both structural and functional levels but the information of the tissues at both cellular and molecular level. It helps the doctor in the detection of cancer, heart disease, infection, and brain diseases at an initial level.

The whole-body PET CT Scan is most commonly used to detect cancer. Because it allows the detection of tumors at an earlier stage.

Why should I need a Whole body PET CT Scan?

The whole body PET CT scan is used to detect a wider range of diseases or disorders such as:

  • Cancer and response of the treatment for cancer

  • Brain Disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Seizures and memory disorders, etc.

  • Heart Disorders such as coronary arteries disease

  • Infections

  • Central nervous system disorders etc.

How does a Whole body PET CT Scan work?

The procedure of whole body PET-CT involves the injection of a very small amount of FDG( radioactive glucose tracer) into your vein to light up the cells followed by taking images of the whole body using the gamma camera to detect the problem. In the case of tumor cells, the PET-CT scan captures the images of the radioactivity within the tumor cells. The procedure of the whole body PET CT scan generally takes about 20 – 90 minutes.

What are the possible precautions to be taken for a whole-body PET CT Scan?

  • You may be asked to fast for 4-6 hours before the scan but you can have plain water.

  • Diabetic patient can have their meal but early morning

  • It is advisable for diabetics not to miss their medicine on the day of the procedure.

Cost of whole body PET CT Scan

The PET CT scan combines the two techniques in a single scan. It is considered one of the most effective and also expensive methodologies. But because of its benefits, it is highly recommended. Normally, the cost of a whole-body PET CT Scan in Delhi is between INR 23,000 to INR 25,000 in all diagnostic centers.

Conclusion

Whole body PET CT scan is a nuclear medicine scan that is usually used for the early detection of cancer and other problems related to the brain, heart, and nervous system at the cellular and functional level. It is helpful in tracking the treatment progression and deciding the best treatment for your health issues before it becomes worse.

Getting knowledge about the whole body PET CT scan before undergoing the scan is helpful in lowering stress.

An ultrasound is an imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of part of the inside of the body. It doesn’t not only create the picture of internal organs but soft tissues also. The ultrasound procedure is completely safe as it doesn’t use any radiation as x-ray and other imaging procedure uses.

Usually, people associate ultrasound with pregnancy scans, but in reality, it doesn’t use only for pregnancy but for other health conditions also.

There are various types of ultrasounds such as:

Pregnancy ultrasound

Pregnancy ultrasound or prenatal ultrasound is used to look at the fetus to get detailed information about the growth, development, and overall health of the unborn baby so that the doctor can take preventive measures for the health issues if any found in the unborn baby.

Diagnostic ultrasound

Diagnostic Ultrasound is used to look at the internal organs such as the heart, blood vessels, liver, bladder, kidneys, and female reproductive organs to detect abnormalities.

Problems that can be detected by ultrasounds

Ultrasounds can be used to detect and diagnose a wide range of health problems. In this blog, we will discuss some common problems that are diagnosed using ultrasound such as:

  • Cancer: It is used to detect various types of cancer. But mostly it is used to detect the cancers such as cirrhosis of the liver and testicular cancer.

  • Cysts: It is used to detect the formation of a lump and help the doctor in accurate diagnosis by differentiating a tumor from a cyst.

  • Breast problems:- Doctor usually recommends this breast ultrasound to detect breast lumps and cysts when mammography shows abnormality.

  • Cardiovascular problems: It is used to detect and diagnose various kinds of cardiovascular problems, such as blocked and narrowed blood vessels, heart defects, and cardiovascular disease.

  • Uterine fibroids: It is used to detect the fibroids, cysts, and other conditions associated with the female reproductive system in case of pelvis pain and abnormal menses cycle.

  • Thyroid conditions: It is used to detect issues related to the thyroid gland such as abnormal growths in the thyroid gland or neck and abnormal activities of the thyroid gland.

  • Infections: It is used to diagnose the infected tissues.

  • Liver problems: It is also performed to diagnose various kinds of liver-related problems such as fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis, fibrosis, etc.

  • Kidney problems: It detects different kidneys related issues such as kidney stones, cysts, tumors, and infections.

  • Gallbladder Problem: It detects the gallbladder problems such as gallstones.

How is Ultrasound performed?

The ultrasound is carried out by a specially trained ultrasound technician called a sonographer. For the ultrasonic procedure, the technician uses an ultrasonic device called a transducer. The technician applies gel to the skin of a particular area and then passes the transducer or probe over that area of the body to be scanned to transmit the ultrasound waves from the probe through the gel and into the body. The sound waves reflect the body structure and back to the probe, The probe then converts the waves into electrical signals. To cover the electrical signals in real-time images, the computer system is used.

Advantages of an ultrasound

  • The ultrasound offers various benefits such as

  • The ultrasound scan procedure is safe and doesn’t pose any side effects because ultrasound doesn’t use radiation so there is no chance of being exposed to radiation.

  • It creates real-time images of soft tissues

  • The procedure of ultrasound is painless

Conclusion

Ultrasound scan is a completely safe and highly effective imaging procedure that provides live images of the inside of the body. The sonographer or ultrasound technician performs the ultrasound procedure to diagnose the problem effectively at the earlier stage.

3D CT KUB is an imaging scan to visualize the problem associated with kidney, ureter, and bladder in 3D reconstruction.

Why is it done?

Doctors recommend this radiology scan to look:-

  • Kidney stones

  • Tumours

  • Infection

  • To detect the cause of flank pain

In which case 3D CT KUB not performed?

In pregnancy, it is not performed.

What Is The Preparation For 3D CT KUB?

In this CT scan test, no special preparation is required.

What Is The Procedure For 3D CT KUB?

You need to lie supine or prone ( it gives better visualization of urinary stones )on table and the arm is placed in the sides and a scan is performed you need to remain still during the procedure. Then the image is reconstructed in 3D View.

Cost of 3D CT KUB in Delhi

3D CT KUB test cost near me in Delhi typically ranges from INR 6000 to INR 7000, depending on the diagnostic center.
